“The Lord of the Harvest”
Luke 10:2 “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
There are moments in life that are completely unforgettable. The unforgettable moments in life are the kind that stick with you and shape the kind of human being that you become. Likewise, in life there are the moments that are the “not to be forgotten moments.” The not to be forgotten moments in life are usually the easiest to forget; yet if you can remember them you’ll always be succesful in life’s endeavors. The not to be forgotten moment for me is the experience I had the first time I was able to lead someone to Jesus Christ.
It happened while I was in high school and would walk to school early to get the cafeteria breakfast(I can’t believe I would get up early to eat that stuff). One morning I saw a classmate in the cafeteria looking disturbed and we sat down and talked for about 45 minutes. During our conversation, I told him my testimony of what Jesus had done in my life. My heart was pounding as I was sharing the gospel to someone for the first time. I was as nervous as I ever was in my life. When I had finished talking I asked him if he wanted to accept that Jesus Christ was God and invite Him into his heart. My classmate accepted the gift of salvation and I prayed for him. It was one of the most exhilarating experiences in my entire life. I knew in my heart that in that very moment heaven was rejoicing because another person was added to God’s Kingdom. I walked into class that morning a new person. I was no longer just an average believer… I had been introduced to “the harvest field”. I never want to forget that sense of awe I had in knowing that I did not work for myself that day, but for God.
Jesus said in John 3:35, “Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!”
By this statement Jesus was making a challenge to his disciples to realize that truth does not need time to become truth. Truth is immediately relevant to all people. The problem was not that the spiritual harvest of souls was not ready, but that the men with the harvesting tools refused to work.
Today the same challenge is being given to believers by the Lord of the Harvest which is the Holy Spirit. Do not wait; tell of the things that Jesus has done for you. Jesus asked his disciples to lift up their eyes, because the harvest was already white(ready). The truth is that there is always at least one person at all times in our sphere of influence who is ripe and ready to accept the truth.
Lift up your eyes today and ask the Lord of the Harvest to send you into the his field. The Challenge has been made and all that is left to do is accept it and become a light in the darkness.
